Nothing Else Matters
17 June, 2003
Author: Mark Spencer
I am born into the world frail and needing love.
As I drift ever farther from heaven above.
I am cold and afraid, and I feel my heart patter.
I need those who love me, and nothing else matters.
Now I'm turning eleven, I'm no longer a tyke.
I hope for my birthday, Dad gets me that bike.
I've told him all year, 'til he was tired of my chatter.
All I want is that bike, and nothing else matters.
Now I'm twenty one, and I can jam in the bars.
I can legally drink, while I play my guitar.
I can pick up the women, 'cause I know how to flatter.
I want that blonde at the bar, and nothing else matters.
Now I'm forty five and I'm still in the band.
Things haven't turned out the way that I'd planed.
We had four hit records and then watched our fans scatter.
We need one more hit, and nothing else matters.
Now I'm sixty seven, wondering why I'm still here.
I've made plenty of money, from my music career.
My daughter's an actress, my son plays his clatter.
I hope his album goes platinum, and nothing else matters.
Now I am leaving the world frail and needing love.
As I drift ever closer to heaven above.
I am cold and afraid, and I feel my heart patter.
I need those who love me, and nothing else matters.
