Farewell To Jimmy
21 May, 2003
Author: Mark Spencer
Michael got to the hospital
A little after three.
He came strait from the airport,
Arriving from Tennessee.
But Jimmy was not responding,
His vital signs were weak.
He had slipped into a coma.
And his chances were bleak.
The doctor was less than hopeful,
Said he didn’t want to lie.
But so long without oxygen,
Meant Jimmy would likely die.
And sure enough at three AM,
Jimmy went to Heaven.
As Michael’s tears fell for his son,
A boy of only seven.
How could this all have come to pass?
How did Jimmy lose his life?
The sheriff took Michael aside,
Said sir it was your wife.
While Jimmy he lay sleeping,
His mother came to his bed.
She took a pillow in her hands,
And placed it on his head.
She held it over Jimmy’s face,
And there she held it tight.
Until there was no breath in him,
And his body ceased to fight.
She later told my deputy,
Her voice without remorse,
The boy was a cruel reminder,
Of what ended in divorce.
So she was sent to prison,
For the life that she stole.
For doing the unthinkable,
She got life without parole.
Now Michael comes back every year,
His tears he cannot quell.
Puts fresh flowers on Jimmy’s grave,
Then bids his son farewell.

Justus Isaiah Richardson (198.81.26.143) -- Monday, May 26 2003, 01:23 pm Sad commentary on an all to frequent scenario. So often this sort of thing seems to be happening! Too bad we don't have a way of catching people like this before they commit the crime, like in Minority Report. Of course that would mean they would have nailed me too, but this woman's victim was innocent. Great writing Rev. |
Leah06 (12.232.5.189) -- Tuesday, May 27 2003, 01:42 am Great poem! Very sad yet true. I hate people who do thease things to their kids. Just today a woman put her 3 year old daughter in a washing maching at a laundry mat. Why would somone do such a thing? Well great poem! |
LinzAy (152.163.252.130) -- Tuesday, May 27 2003, 06:30 am Great poem....sad that this type of thing really happens.... |
Justus Isaiah Richardson (205.188.209.39) -- Friday, May 30 2003, 12:52 am I'm with LinzAy on that one. Too many innocents victimized by evil people in this world. |
