Fallen Angel
1 January, 1970
Author: Mark Spencer
I met a fallen Angel
Upon a mountain high.
I’d gotten there by climbing,
He had fallen from the sky.
It was because of me, he said,
That he’d come to this place.
For speaking out against me,
He was banished in disgrace.
He claimed God was mistaken
When He created me.
He said the human race was flawed,
That we had no right to be.
I said, God doesn’t make mistakes,
There’s more than meets the eye.
It’s true that we’re imperfect,
Did you ever ask Him why?
He knows that we are children,
Taking our first awkward steps.
That should we ever falter,
We might fall into the depths.
But he lets me make my choices,
No matter right or wrong.
I learn each time I stumble,
And the knowledge makes me strong.
I’m sure when I am ready
When I’ve learned all I can learn.
He will lift me up to heaven,
To the reward I have earned.
I know that I’m not perfect,
For only God is that.
But he has given me salvation,
Through the Son whom he begat.
Who would I be to question Him,
On the works of His own hand?
If the answers were revealed to me,
Would I even understand?
Then the angel bowed his head,
Said, now I finally see.
What it is he sees in you,
For you are wiser than me.
I am also His creation,
And I overstepped my place.
Through my arrogance and pride,
I might have lost his grace.
You’ve helped me find salvation,
Here in the world of men.
And shown one fallen Angel,
How to earn his wings again.
