The Messenger
8 March, 2003
Author: Mark Spencer
I am just the messenger,
A bearer of the word.
Only an emissary,
For the message I have heard.
You may choose not to listen,
Even if the truth is clear.
That choice is your given right,
I won’t force you to hear.
All I ask is that you read
The verses that I write.
If therein you find no truth,
To ignore them then is right.
But if you do find wisdom,
In what my poems say.
Then pay heed to their lessons,
And do not turn away.
The darkness is descending
An hour we can’t evade.
There will be no middle ground.
Your choices must be made.
You can select the darkness,
And descend into the night.
Or choose the road less traveled,
And live within the light.
Though if you pick the latter,
A servant’s path you’ll take.
A road paved with sacrifice,
Will be the choice you make.
But do not be mistaken,
We must all choose a side.
The age will soon be ending,
There will be no place to hide.
This news I bear, it grieves me.
But I have weighed the cost.
If it is not delivered,
Then many will be lost.
So be kind to your brother,
And give to those in need.
It is a simple message,
I pray we all can heed.
