The Phone Call
2 March, 2003
Author: Mark Spencer
I got a phone call today,
That I did not expect.
He told me he was Jesus,
Which couldn't be correct.
I'll be coming by to visit,
Is what I heard him say.
I asked when to expect him,
He said, "Later on today".
I fumbled through the phone book,
I had to find a maid.
My house was full of clutter,
And my bed still wasn't made.
I found someone to do the job,
Who could get here right away.
She worked for several hours,
It nearly took all day.
Yet she removed the clutter,
And then she went away.
When suddenly I realized
That I'd forgot to pay.
But Jesus would soon be here,
Though He was running late.
I stayed up until midnight,
But sleep just couldn't wait.
I was disappointed,
I wanted to believe,
That he would really visit,
That I wasn't just naive.
Then another phone call,
Woke me from my trance.
Could it be him calling?
I had to take the chance.
He said "Hello, it's Jesus,
And I just want to say,
That I enjoyed the visit,
That we had yesterday".
I said Lord, I am confused,
No visit I recall.
I waited up for hours,
But you came not at all.
He said, "You are mistaken,
For hours there I stayed.
I put your house order,
For I came as a maid".

Lori Ann Day (198.81.26.113) -- Friday, March 7 2003, 10:56 am I think that Jesus comes in many guises, and works through many people. If we just look and listen, I think that we will be guided, but we have to use discernment. |
Martin Vann (63.208.46.48) -- Friday, March 7 2003, 03:33 pm Mark; No need to read between the lines, the words you used, were fine. We never know, when the lord will call, only that he will. Question is, are we ready for his visit? What he has done and does for us, he does for free, becuase he is the God of love. Thank You MartinV |
Mark Spencer (64.12.96.102) -- Saturday, March 8 2003, 01:18 pm Very true Martin. I must add one thing though. The one thing that people always seem to overlook. He does it for free, yes. But it doesn't matter how cluttered your house (soul) is, if you let him in, he will make it clean again. No questions asked. His blood was spilled on the cross to atone for the clutter in your house. You only have to let Him in so he can do his job. Mark |
Xeracy (204.113.161.185) -- Tuesday, March 11 2003, 04:39 pm It was quite enjoyable. I like how the religion popped up in this world that is not open to religion anymore. I also like how many people cling to it when it does. (all the comments) Another thing, and I would like to know if it was intentional, was the fact that the persona didn't ever call Jesus. He was just waiting for Jesus to call him. Maybe if the persona had taken the time to "call" him he would have known what was going on. In my opinion, this poem also teaches us to pray. :) I hope that with these comments I have given that I'm not going too far off the intended subject of the poem. |
