Upon the stage, you see her there;
her fears are cast aside.
For all to see, she is stripped bare;
there's nothing left to hide.

She sings of laughter and of tears,
of love and many thing.
A gift presented to her peers,
in the song that she sings.

Her throat begins to quiver;
another note escapes.
As it drifts upon the river
toward the melody she shapes.

But she herself is turned to glass;
a frail and fragile thing.
Presented to those amassed,
Who've come to hear her sing.

At times they've left her shattered;
crushed by their attack.
Though broken and scattered,
she's always found her way back.

Many times she's been discouraged,
by those who do not care.
Who would never have the courage
to sing from way up there.

It is they who call it hokey,
say it's something to ignore.
For its only karaoke,
but to her it's so much more.

Her confidence and self esteem
have grown with every song.
It carries her upon its stream
to a place where she belongs.

A place where she's respected,
where the people know her name.
Here she feels connected,
because everyone's the same.
