The Mountain
15 January, 2003

I am the Mountain.
I have stood here since the Earth was new.
And I was old before the first trees grew.

I have been watching,
since the first tiny feet stepped from the sea,
going fourth to find their destiny.

Here in my shadow,
dinosaurs took their first mighty strides.
I watched over them until the day they died.

Then I became a shelter,
My caves were home to the first race of man.
Every individual and every clan.

Then one day they left me,
taking up their wings they learned to fly.
Masters of the Earth and of the sky.

But they too departed.
They passed away, while some left for the stars.
From time to time they watched me from afar.

My time grows near now.
The Sun is growing hotter every day.
And when it dies I too will pass away.

And so I will leave you.
This story will be all that’s left of me.
The record of my life, my legacy.

I am the Mountain,
I have stood here since the Earth was new.
And I was old before the first trees grew.

Mark, you work words like a silversmith does his silver.

One never knows what view you will present. I can see the father figure here and I can also see the planet earth in thess words. You work the readers mind and I like that tremendously. You have the ability to put forth, "creative confusion," I enjoy traveling the trails your words blaze. Perhaps there is nothing so strong that it will not in time, be changed by TIME.

Thanks again

Nothing lives forever.

The Mountain shows us that even the first things of this realm eventually die. That nothing is eternal here, not even the Earth itself. Eternity exists just outside the confines of time and space. That's also where you can find God. Thanks to LinzAy, Luc and Martin. God Bless you all.

Mark
