The Reunion
12 February, 2003
Author: ShyHeart
I had a meeting to attend, decided to drive,
rather than fly, needed some time, to think things through
I was getting tired, driving on that lonely road, then I saw some lights
Just up a ahead, pulled in, to get a bite.
The parking lot was empty, strange, still, there were lights on inside
So, got out of my car and walked on in and to my surprise
Saw a Jute Box, songs for a dime, slipped one in
That old jute box just lit up and seemed to come to life
Felt a tap on my shoulder and when I turned around, Lord!
Saw all my old friends, that I, had been carrying around
Dancing, laughing and each was with his girl
How did I find this place, it was a different world?
I stayed a while, talked about old memories, God I love these guys
Then I seemed to tire, the music and their faces, began to fade…,
I knew it was time for me to go, so, I said fare well to my old friends
They all smiled and said, one day, Martin, we will see you, again
As I walked outside to my surprise, the parking lot was full
Of Chevrolet Corvettes, then this young man came walking toward me
He said, good evening, saw the lights, thought I’d stop by
Might meet some friends, I had a Corvette once
But, I lost it, in a firey, wreck, lucky, I survived
Then as he started to walk in, I said, if, we meet again
My name is Martin, it was nice meeting you
He smiled at me and said, my name’s Malone,
Private Malone, then, he walked on in
I stood there for a moment, then looked up, at the evening sky,
Saw a million winking eyes looking back at me, I smiled
That night, I lost the feeling, of being all alone
For finally, all my friends, had made it safely, home
I’ve always wondered who it was, that tapped me
On the shoulder, when that old jute box began to play
Perhaps it was my inner-self, saying, let them go
All your friends have made it home, even Private Malone
