Upholstered Heart
1 September, 2002
Author: Pamela O'Brien
How would you feel if one day you woke up and you were blind?
Or your legs were paralyzed?
What would you do if one morning you found yourself short of breath?
Or had an incredible pain in your chest?
Where would you go if when you stepped out your door,
And civilization ceased to exist?
What would you say if you opened your mouth,
Only to release defeaning silence?
These are not tales of horrible disease,
Time travel or nightmarish dreams,
This is what happens when your upholstered heart,
Is torn at its very own seams.
