Somehow, your calmness is reassuring,
Your acceptance of my love for you with no questions asked,
Your tender touch that brings the familiar feeling of a warm blanket on a cold winters day,
Or the way your kiss makes my blood boil with a passion I knew I had but never experienced before..
After we make love to one another, my body is filled with pins and needles,
For my body has fallen asleep,
And I am dreaming that I am in heaven; a dream that has become a reality.
And that smile, oh that smile..
Like those little rays of light that make a rainbow,
Sometimes bringing an instantaneous moment of elation,
Other times lingering for days on end.
Somehow, your mysterious side is endearing,
Your refusal to say some of the things you think leaves me craving more,
Your silence that tickles my mind with anticipation as if it were a jigsaw puzzle gone unsolved,
Or the way you look into my eyes and for some reason I can't sit still because you see through me..
After you have left my side and I find myself alone, I can't help but smile,
For tomorrow is another day,
And I am waiting for you,
As I have, do, and always will; it is inevitable due to fate.
Because everything that is meant to be, will be.
------- Author's Notes -------
This poem was written about ten months ago for my boyfriend Michael. After a year of dating, we are now broken up because I am in love with him and he isn't in love with me. And yet, when I read this poem, I can't help but smile because this is truly how he made me feel. Unrequited love is the most tragic thing a person can ever experience, next to death. |

Marianne (205.188.113.143) -- Sunday, June 27 2004, 10:16 pm Pamela, I enjoy so much what you write. I had a Michael too and each word of this poem is what I had with him. Now it's gone, he betrayed me. It has been almost six months but today it feels like yesterday. |
