A Raging Storm
13 March, 2003

vinebar

a single drop of rain
slides through the sad sky-
a reflection
in the mirrored surface
of my childhood lake.
thousands of droplets
join forces
and drill insanely
through the water-
form circles
and more circles that swirl and wave.
a raging storm-
sky casts a faded black shadow.
i sit near the large window,
not blinking.
flashes of light
reflected in my eyes.
yellow blue lightning streaks
shoot through the air-
so near.
i run to the lake-
feel the warmth-
drenched and wild,
hair dripping.
i am soothed.
twirling and spinning,
faster than i can inhale the madness-
in a trance.
danger beckons.
birch trees glow a flourescent white,
a contrast
to the deep purple tinged evergreens
near the horizon curve.
the waves now larger than the lake.
desperation-
sheets of rain cover me
our hands begin to clasp together.
the forest cries.
i
cannot
reach
your
fingertips.
