The Kid In Me
10 September, 2003
Author: Roger Gish
There will always be that little kid in me.
The one no one else can see.
Sometimes he's big sometimes he's small,
sometimes he's not there at all.
I want that little kid to grow,
but how I help him I don't know?
He needs to get out so he can become a man.
Someone help me I need a hand.
The little kid within me is very much alive,
but he's never grown past the age of five.
He shows his face when friends are around,
but if he doesn't trust you he can not be found.
He's a grown man in every way,
but in his mind he's out to play.
As a little kid he has so much fun,
but when he's grown up he just wants to run.
Sometimes he's happy sometimes he's sad,
sometimes he's good sometimes he's bad.
He's been through so much pain and sorrow,
that sometimes he prayed there would be no more tomorrow.
He's hurt his family and his friends,
he wonders if this nightmare ever ends.
How everyone he loves is so far away,
he prays that he will see them again someday.
So to the little kid in me I set you free,
So I can be the man I need to be.

Dino (209.240.207.249) -- Friday, November 14 2003, 10:26 am Very nice poem Roger. This sounds like my son who will be 30 next month. He said he doesn't want to grow up, still rides his scate board down the sidewalks, and writes and makes his rap music. Guess he gets that from his Dad, we still race dirtbikes together. The kid in us just won't go away. Thanks for sharing your poem, I really enjoyedi it Roger. |
PAMELA (66.225.130.57) -- Saturday, November 15 2003, 12:56 am I loved this poem! I love the concept that we are all still young children, innocent and progressing each day. I feel like this about myself and so any other people I know - thank you for capturing the emotions so precisely :o) |
