The Lost Soul
30 March, 2003
Author: Ryan M Holden
Sometimes at night I lie awake
And wonder how much more my soul can take
Emotions that just can't say goodbye
Each night I still let lose and cry
With time your mind might understand
That the love of your life has found a man
But your mind and your soul are two different things
Your mind may cope, but your soul spreads wings
The mind moves on, but a soul will fly
It's for this innocent soul each night you cry
Yet on it soars from door to door
In search of a love, it will never ignore
'Cause there's only one thing a soul can't learn
That the love it yearns, won't be returned
And when your love for one's so very strong
You heart will swear, your mind must be wrong!
Surely this is a dreadful mistake
Your heart it seems just will not break
It won't slow down until it's crowned
Next to the one, that may never be found
So on it searches from door to door
For this love that drives, it can't ignore
And the day will come when your heart and soul
Meet together, to pay their toll
They seemed to think there would always be more
But now it seems they've reached the last door
The sweetest key of love together they hold
But the lock of this door, is not the same mold
It doesn't matter how hard they try
This door they've found won't ever pry
It's then that your heart will break down and weep
For this unanswered love, it must always keep
Finally it has seen what no soul can learn
That the love it gave, won't be returned
And if you're strong your heart may mend
Yet for this soul, there can be no end
So on it soars everywhere it can
For a love that's given to another man
'Cause there's only one thing a soul can't learn
That the love it feels, won't be returned
Late in my life when God calls my name
It's then I must try to hide my shame
For when I stand at heaven's gate
I know my soul will show up late
'Cause where else could it possibly be
Than pounding on that door
Searching for the love it can never ignore

Jocelyn (66.108.75.34) -- Monday, November 17 2003, 05:30 am I honestly must admit, this poem is like no other. The image it gives off is so touching - I began to cry remembering going through a feeling like that. I have read nearly all the poems in this section, and this one has truly been able to touch my heart. |
