Daddy Died
17 May, 2002
Author: Sookie
Mommy woke me up
and rushed me to the car
it was late at night
and, still, I could see the stars
As she struggled to speak
I asked her what was wrong
"daddy went out tonight
and now he could be gone"
He was mugged
and was shot in the head
by a drunk man
who, for what he did, should be dead.
We pulled into the hospital
and approached the main desk
The nurse said they did all they could
and that they did their best.
At the age of eight
I felt that I could deal,
but soon I realized that it's
inhuman not to feel
We had to make a decision
and we discussed it like a debate
Although daddy had died
we could still save lives and donate
"We could use his lungs, kidneys,
and liver too.
He could give his heart away
just as he had given it to you"
Mommy and I
We tried to comfort each other
but she said that donating life
could take away our suffer.
Once the operation took place
and daddy's organs were taken away
they found a home in someone else
and for now, that's where they'd stay
As I grew
and became more mature
my father's death was
easier to endure
I studied the organization
and the status of their rank
I gained a new respect for the
people of Life Banc
Life Banc wants to spread the word
they don't want to hide
they tell stories about me
and how it helped when daddy died.
