she goes to sleep with the T.V. on,
she can't bear to die in silence,
with the steady approach of a lonely dawn,
she finally understands love's violence,

lurking in the shadows of another's dream,
she cries,
'this can't be how it seems',
she's losing hope in that grand scheme,
and she makes no effort to still her screams

so she cries
'how cheap is forever,
what was your meaning of never,
where did you put the man i once knew,
why are your promises so long overdue'

and she curls up beside herself,
says she is blinded against the lightning,
then she walks in and out between the rain,
hoping to find it enlightening

she says 'i AM NOT scared of the dark',
but with the approach of night,
she makes a quiet remark,
then hastens toward the light,

and she cries,
'before you leave turn the T.V. on,
something to distract me while you're gone,
let it create pictures in my head,
so i don't have to think about what you said'

then she falls alseep to T.V. shows,
and huddles in their quiet shadows,
trying to assume another's dream,
because she no longer has the strength to scream

so she reaches for her cup, (contents half gone)
and quietly embraces love's violence,
then she falls asleep with the T.V. on,
because she can't bear to die in silence
