Tears

Some people cry when they're happy,
and I don't quite understand,
why you'd shed tears for joy,
instead of smiling because you're glad.

I've only cried for sadness,
because that's all I've ever known,
broken heart and broken spirit,
although it's never really shown.

I always have a smile,
painted over my frown,
it's hard to move my lips,
they've always been facing down.

I never cry for happiness,
I'm always sad instead,
because another tear on my cheek,
means another hope is dead.
