Different Faces
19 April, 2004
Author: Capricorn
I peer at the man who flies
with newly tested wings.
This sapling with slender trunk
epitomises my lost appearance.
His face is sometimes straight
yet conceals a bubbling potion
waiting to boil over in laughter,
contagious as a cold
ready to rock us.
His mind is as fresh
as the coffee he loves to drink.
He labours for achievements,
wishing days
had fewer wrinkles .
I look closer to see
a boy still resides here.
I fear this fledgling may get caught
by the neighbour's cat,
played with
and then discarded.
His wit is like fragrant lavender
relaxing and therapeutic.
His distress squeezes my heart
roughly, bruising it,
as I smooth his brow
from furrowed fields.
He requires abundant life,
for ripeness to bloom
and attain the sapience of an owl.
I gaze at the face I love
-- my son.
He wears a mask
for different departments of life.
Occasionally I glance
behind this masquerade.
In times of tensity
he pulls my emotions
in different directions,
yet fills my glass to the brim
with full bodied
mother-bird feelings ,
until it spills over
to flood me.
