My Old Wreck
20 November, 2003
Author: Ben Laney
Well, she may be a beater
But she's got a good heater
And she gets me where I gotta go
She's been rollin' me around
this lazy, crazy town
Now if you don't mind goin' slow
Baby, come and go for a ride
In my old wreck
It would fill my heart with pride
to throw my arm around your neck
I'll take you to the riverside
Give you a hug and a lovin' little peck
Baby, come and go for a ride
In my old wreck
Yes she does some swayin'
but with the radio playin'
She seems to shake along with the beat
So, what do you say, pretty lady,
Slide on the seat beside me
And let's get off of these city streets
Pay no attention to the smokin'
'cause once she gets up and goin'
she sails down the highway just fine
So don't you be hesitating
No, don't keep a good man waiting
let's go drivin' in the bright sunshine
Baby, come and go for a ride
In my old wreck
It would fill my heart with pride
to throw my arm around your neck
I'll take you to the riverside
Give you a hug and a lovin' little peck
Baby, come and go for a ride
In my old wreck
------- Author's Notes -------
What was that sound, Darlin'? Oh, nothing to worry about... that was just the left rear fender falling off. It's okay, it does that every once in a while.I saw it in the mirror.. it bounced of the road into a patch of grass. I guess that wire I used to hold in on with gave out! NO PROBLEM! We'll pick it up on the way back from the river! Oh, now would you look at that! My trunk lid just went flyin' off, too! I hope that semi truck behind us doesn't ......Oh, well, NO BIG DEAL! I'll just stretch a bed sheet over it later and seal it down with some duct tape! That'll fix it! Hey, honey, now ain't this a nice, bright, sunny day to go ridin' in my old wreck? Uh, oh......I think I just blew a tire, and my spare is flat! Hey, so what, sugar dumplin'! What a BEAUTIFUL day to take a walk to the river! It's only about six more miles from here! Yeah, the old wreck will be fine! Me and Billy Earl will come back for it later! Do you want to leave those high heel shoes here? |

Ben (67.123.245.222) -- Sunday, November 23 2003, 06:05 pm Leah, you're laughing again and I do hope you're laughing with me while you're laughing at me. I hope you really did "laugh out loud", too! Did I make the authors comment funnier than the song again? I'll have to STOP doing that! Ha! Ha! Haaaa! Seriously, though, I appreciate your comment soooo much, and I thank you for it. I am happy you enjoyed the ride in "My Old Wreck" and got some entertainment out of reading it! ***Ben |
Terrie* (65.135.86.71) -- Sunday, November 23 2003, 08:21 pm cool poem Ben..your so goofy...i dunno 'bout ya....yea i can recall...an old rag-top (convertible) that my husband had he traded his muscle car for...it was the sorriest looking car on the road..but it was great in all other respects..it got us where we needeed to be, it got darn better mileage than my caddy..that rent-a-wreck was very reliable... thanx for sharing a great poem...i thought it was funny in a cute sort of way....'aye i think i passed Bobby Joe on I-5 carrying a chrome plated fender..but me thinks he's heading to the nearest wrecking yard...could be wrong....you are too much Mr. Laney |
Ben (67.123.245.222) -- Sunday, November 23 2003, 11:08 pm Terrie*, I dunno either, but you KNOW that telling me I'm "goofy" only encourages me! I'm glad this brought back fond memories of an "old wreck" that used to get you where you were going. And, of course, I appreciate your comment VERY much. And hey, next time you're down in the dumps....would you pick me up a tire? Ha! Ha! Haaaaa! Thank you! ***Ben |
