Pawns
8 October, 1999
author: Rebecca Ditch-Hammack (aka Dreamer)
Trapped in a world we didn't create
We play by the rules and survive
Watching as pains of the multitudes
Erupt into the youths anger and prate
Rules keep changing so fast its hard to keep up
Trying but miserably failing
Into the future made by the crass
Where all in control are corrupt
An unhappy world where no one is sane
Everyone needs doctors and pills
We are the reflections of what we've become
Prisoners of life's new ordained
Not hard to envision what the future will hold
Illusions of freedom now fade
Realizations of the truth if it be known
Of a world that breeds souls that are cold
Dreams of tomorrow are no longer bright
While yesterdays memories hold firm
Too relaxed to the changes that happen around us
Mere pawns in a game we can't fight
------- Author's Notes -------
Wouldn't the world be a better place if everyone lived by the Golden Rule |
