Defending Yesterdays
11 October, 1999
author: Rebecca Ditch-Hammack (aka Dreamer)
Each Day she cries silently alone
To Belong to another she craves
"How can I go on" she asks again and again
As on through another day she defends
Yesterdays cold memories blocking her way
Stolen of feelings, harsh realities play
Blinded the good gets lost in the sad
"If only I'd seen then, I was being had"
She struggles onward fighting her dragons
With each fiery breath burning her soul
Too scared to trust in herself she's alone
In quicksands of the mind she sinks in what she's sown
If only she could find the inner strength to go on
To trust in herself once more
The power is within, if only to look
If only to take the little time that it took
Basking in the moonlight she sheds yet another tear
For life to go on she must give up her fear
Love in herself is on what she can depend
Leaving behind the dragons she can once again Live, not defend
------- Author's Notes -------
It's hard to leave the past where it should be as it creeps up behind you. It's bite is sharp and deep. Forgive yourself the mistakes you've made. Make the choice for a difference, and there you will find strength to go on. |
