The Tide
8 June, 2000
author: Rebecca Ditch-Hammack (aka Dreamer)
The changing tides are upon me
Each day so close to the same
Yet in difference each tide brings
Something new each and every ebb
I watch for the bottle upon the waves
As I toss another stone far into the distance
The sun shines brightly blinding me
As another splash of water touches my feet
I watch as the shell rolls upon the beach
To be taken away yet again with the flow
Yet it leaves behind a new and different treasure
Something mysterious and unknown
I think about life how it takes and gives
Like the tide surrounding my feet
I think of all that was lost along the way
In sadness I shed a tear
I try not to forget the beauty that comes unexpectedly
Upon the waves each day
A blessing not yet seen, still awaits
Though I never know when it will arrive
I toss another stone upon the receding wave
And I know it will never be seen again
I look one last time, as the sun again blinds me
As I again reflect upon what once was
I turn from the waves as they splash my feet
Knowing not what tomorrow will bring
Yet not in resentment of what was taken back
But in anticipation of the new, yet to be
------- Author's Notes -------
Every day can bring something new and exciting. It's usually worth the wait But for everything new, there is the release of the old. So cry not, for what is, but cheer for what will be. |
