The Fourth Of July
4 July, 2000
author: Rebecca Ditch-Hammack (aka Dreamer)
The night sky lit up with colors so bright
Voices ooo-ed and ahh-ed with childish delight
Whistles and pops from every direction
Mmm, sweet fireworks an awesome invention
Driving the street watching every which way
Looking for the streaks that for only a split moment stay
People out everywhere lighting off their stashes
First with the whizzes, then bangs, then flashes
As the night sky darkens
The colors now gone helped blacken
The air filled with the scent of gunpowder
As in the house family dogs cower
All in the name of people's freedom
The reason everyone wants to see 'um
The Fourth of July what a night
Oh what a purely wonderful sight
