Thankful
21 November, 2001
author: Rebecca Ditch-Hammack (aka Dreamer)
At this time of the year we are asked something
What are we thankful for, what did this year bring?
As I sit back in my chair, deep in thought
I can't help but think of the war being fought
I think of our friends, men, and women now over the sea
Protecting our country so we will remain free
I think of the women in veiled prisons far away
I am thankful in this country we'll never live that way
I am thankful for the nation undivided by fear
I am glad we were indivisible as our hearts wept a tear
I think of the people this year that were lost
I think of the hatred and how much it cost
I am thankful for all people, the young and the old
The wisdom of their years, both simple and bold
I think of the lessons so many learned
I am thankful people cared enough to be concerned
I am thankful I live in a country like this
One born of dreams and a single wish
Where people pull together for the greater good
I am thankful for a world with so much brotherhood
