Fame And Fortune
24 April, 2004
Author: Tricia
You serve this country with great ease and pride,
You wake each morning, along side all the others.
Yet they praise your name beyond all others
because you have fame and fortune.
You serve along side my fallen brother,
my wounded son, my crippled husband, and my lost friend.
Yet you are the one that is put in all the glory as you
leave our world to enter heaven.
Your name they do display on all the news channels
on fliers and letters. Yet the names of my son, husband, brother and friend are never mentioned.
Their names their blood are only left on that foreign land,
and in the minds and hearts of friends and families.
but with Fame and Fortune your memory and name burns as though you are a hero above all others.
All are heros, all are soldiers, all serve this country equally and with all their hearts, shouldnt all be treated the same, no matter their fame and fortune.
------- Author's Notes -------
After hearing the death of Pat Tillman and thinking about all the other soldiers who have fought and died for our country. Their names were not smeared across the press they are just a number and maybe a name mentioned once. It kills me that if you dont have Fame and Fortune your just another statistic on the board, and not considered a hero. You have fame and fortune your a hero and above all. This is my thought and feelings maybe im wrong maybe im right but all i can do is feel. |

Meridian (205.188.116.200) -- Sunday, April 25 2004, 05:43 pm I'm really sorry to hear about the loss of your son, husband, and brother...If I'm not mistaken----but yeah, like you said, all soldiers should be treated the same....They all fought this war together, but yet, you only hear about them, maybe once....My heart goes out to the ones in Iraq, because it's an evil, ongoing war, that I wish would end soon, so that all soldiers would be able to come back home, and reunite their families...Lovely poem Tricia! I hope to read more of your creative work in the years to come! lol Meridian |

I have not lost my son, nor husband nor a friend in the war. My husband is serving in the war right now, and i know if i did loose him his name would be forgotten with in moments and hed be just another statistics. (Knock on wood) I am not really old enough to have a son the age of 18 or older im only 21. And i hope ill be able to write poems for years to come. THanks again for your feed back. Tricia |
