Toes
26 April, 2004
Author: Leah06
As children were once told,
Swallowing our gum,
Would make out toes stick together.
We must be careful
When chewing
Making a point to throw it away
Before sleeping and playing.
We were playing
"Duck, Duck, Goose"
In the pond
And chewing bubblegum.
I knew I should throw it away
Before I swam
But I didn't want to miss out.
Darting back and forth
Between friends,
I in fact
Swallowed my gum.
Terrified
I swam to the nearest shoreline
And ran to the nearest hospital.
Quickly I told the emergency doctor.
Looking down upon me,
He smiled
And laughed
As he walked away.
I felt a tear
Forming in my eye
And I watched it fall
As it hit the ground.
It was then that I noticed
I was too late.
I had webbed yellow feet,
That's when I realized
I never had toes,
And that I am in fact
A duck.
------- Author's Notes -------
This is a short story-type poem I had to write for my english class, it was supposed to be funny but I am not that good at writing funny poems so this is what I came up with. |
