The Poet’s Deck Of Hearts

You come to my table, hoping to win big, OH, Lonely, heart
You place the depths, of your love, upon, my table
In hopes, You, will win double, damn, you should know
I work for the house, Yet, Poets’ love…a betting heart

First card, I turn over, is a Jack of spades
You look at the hand, his heart has given you
Then, you say, I need a better hand so,
More of your heart, you lay, upon, my table

This is not five card stud. Its the play of your heart
Sorry, Mr. Dealer, I hear what you say, but
I came here with a necked soul, let me play my cards
The heart confronts the poet, the dealer, of her cards

People, searching for love, begin to gather round
This lady has my courage, which I have never shown
People gather round, and they love her
Such courage, displayed by her, yet, hidden within ourselves

Next card, the Queen of hearts, wouldn’t you know it
The dealer smiles at her, yet, still, he works, for the house
Above the table where the dealer deals, there is a room
Sweet perfume and satin sheets, he hopes, waits for her

As the crowd of loving hearts gather round, to see, the final card
Suddenly she says, this game is over, I fold my cards
But, not my heart, you have shown me a fair deal and yes,
I know, you work for the house.

I decided I would stop, when you dealt me, the Queen of hearts
Yes, I am a romantic, in love, with all the hearts, you deal
But, there is only one, and the room above this table
Is the one that he owns, and he told me…,

Win are lose at cards, in our life, we must, have some fun
She says, thank you sir, I had a lot of fun, at your table
Yes, I know, one more card, I could have won it all
Yet, I know, he waits for me up-stairs,
Thank you sir, I have had, all the fun I need

yes being faithful to what you love..

That's what I got out of this poem. Don't lose focus on what truly matters. Unlucky at cards, but lucky at love, is a saying I thought of after reading this.Did I get the right idea Martin?

Did you get the right idea?

Barb,

I don't think I'd play poker at your table if, you were dealing, I'm sure I lose my shirt.

Thanks,
MartinV
