20 & 1

Fireflies dance in a night's sky
Of 21 years gone by
As waves crash into me
I hear the low hum of distant voices
Of kings in castles
And ordinary people struggling with choices
The soft moon hidden by clouds
I stand on the edge, never as proud
And I swear I'm playing time
With the mute screaming out
The deaf hearing sound
And I, still without
Though I wanted to stay
As my legs gave way
I cried out to you
I heard every sound
In my soul I kept it safe
Peace and love I found
With fireflies spreading light
Granting justice to my fight
Of 21 years gone by
