Railroad Jack
1 September, 2003
Author: Ben Laney
Played his guitar by the tracks
Watching all the trains roll by
Railroad Jack
Carried his clothes in a sack
And Jack dreamed
That someday.....He would fly
Old Jack's hair was all grey
But his eyes were bright as day
And his big voice was strong
He'd push his worn hat back
Give that guitar a slap
Then he'd belt out his song
Railroad Jack
Played his guitar by the tracks
Watching all the trains roll by
Railroad Jack
Carried his clothes in a sack
And Jack dreamed
That someday.....He would fly
When the children came by
Old Jack would wink an eye
And tune up his guitar
Then he'd play 'em a song
About ramblin' along
In an open box car
Railroad Jack
Played his guitar by the tracks
Watching all the trains roll by
Railroad Jack
Carried his clothes in a sack
And Jack dreamed
That someday.....He would fly
Then there came a day
Old Jack didn't come to play
And the children wondered why
Well, I told 'em that old Jack
Finally threw away his sack
And hopped a freight to the sky
Railroad Jack
Played his guitar by the tracks
Watching all the trains roll by
Railroad Jack
Carried his clothes in a sack
And Jack dreamed
That someday.....He would fly

Martin Vann (171.75.206.243) -- Thursday, September 4 2003, 03:07 pm Ben, I agree with Terrie, I could see R.J. by the track, singing his songs, bright blue eyse and a smile like Santa Clause, entertaining the children, just being fynny and silly. R.J. remined me of a guy known as Box Car Willy. Thank Ben, MartinV |
Ben (67.122.249.104) -- Friday, September 5 2003, 12:43 am Vann, The Mann, your comment is VERY much appreciated! I am really please to hear that it makes you "see" Railroad Jack singing his songs. I find that to be quite complimentary!! Thank you, Thank You!!! |
Jack Fuller (24.152.236.136) -- Saturday, August 14 2010, 10:00 pm I played at the Roaring Camp Rail Road in Felton CA for some 13 years. And from time to time Ben and I would play together for ol time's sake. Then one day Ben stopped by my place to show me his latest tune. He said "I've got your song Jackson"! |
