At Either Door
22 October, 2002
Author: Maranda Berkley
A breeze blows through the cracks of the house I rest in
Rustling the leaves outside, lifting the soft curls of my hair
No one sleeps beside me but the voices outside carry
Two men, one at either door, waiting for me to choose a hand
I close my eyes and try to sleep, the covers pulled up as far as they'll go
I hear the breeze carrying the sound of my name
And I wait for it to lift my heart, to open my eyes
And point me in the direction of the right man
Two perfect strangers in their own ways
Both wait on either side of me as I shy away
I can't bring myself to get up
I'm too afraid
God will pick the right man for me
When one leaves and the other stays, I'll know he's mine
He'll tell me he'd wait a lifetime for me if he had to
"There's no need, I'm yours forever" will be my line
