What You See If What You Get
1 July, 2002
Author: Maranda Berkley
I step into the room
And sense the walls backing away
I pay no mind, no attention
They're only walls so I can't complain
My desk waits untouched
Unknown by any other human's flesh
I look around at others who are working
I have a seat to await the rest
My chair seems so low to the surface
My legs hurt from bending this way
I wish I could get up and leave
But I know I have to choice but to stay
Others are coming through the doors
They walk in the opposite direction
I wait for someone to come sit by me
But again, I'm humiliated by rejection
My chair sinks lower
And everyone else gathers
As far away as they can get
I continue to act like being alone doesn't matter
~But what you see is what you get~
I'm bothered by what I call my life
I'm troubled by what I feel inside
I cry myself to sleep at night
Praying I would die
No one would miss me
No one even notices I am alive
I would fade away unnoticed
Without so much as a "good-bye"
Alone alive
Alone I'll die
