Austin
10 August, 2003
Author: Ben Laney
It's raining down here in Texas
You're two thousand miles away
I miss the comfort of your presence
With every passing day
I wonder how you're doing
Have your feelings for me changed?
All I know is how bad I feel
To be alone again
In my mind I could see you,
As I rode through a moonlit night
And I realize how I need you
Your love shines so bright
If your eyes could see this highway,
If the winter could turn warm
Then I wouldn't mind the distance
I wouldn't feel so torn
I'm looking at the way
Things are in Austin
It took a lot of time
Getting through
And here in my heart,
Darlin', it's costin' ....me
These feelings I have
..For you
My ev'ry thought is about you
I assume you're doin' fine
And I hope to be holdin' you
In just a short, short time
'Cause Lookin' at the way
Things are in Austin
I can see clearly
What I left behind
And way down, way down in my heart
Darlin' it's costin' ....me
These feelings I have.....Inside

Martin Vann (171.75.206.129) -- Thursday, August 14 2003, 02:28 pm I got into this story Ben, felt every bump on the road. could see those towns, where you sang out, your heart and soul. So, how do we get in-touch with Jack to get "The Rest Of The Story" the parts we don't often write about? Very good! I visited a recording studio in Austin, years ago, think it was called Autumn Studios, every hear of them, I think Willie N did some recordings there. Anyway, I really, enjoyed this work. Martin |
Ben (64.175.71.101) -- Saturday, August 16 2003, 10:56 pm Jack and I both thank you for your words on Austin! Actually, at the time, we were just a couple of unknowns out there on that long black ribbon of road. Hey, thanks again, and I'll tell Jack you're looking for him! Ha! Ha! I'll remind him not to tell first,, however!! |
Jack Fuller (24.152.236.136) -- Saturday, August 14 2010, 10:13 pm I wrote these lyrics in a one room studio Ben and I rented in Austin in 1979. Ben liked it immediately so we set off to cleaning it up a little and changing some of the original lyric in the last verse. We had nothing, my credit card wa sover its limit and I had to leave my watch at the gas station while Ben and I played on the Drag and earn enough to get it back. It was about what I (we) left behind in California to test our musical wings. |
