Card-board Man
13 May, 2004
Author: ShyHeart
Saw a man on the corner, had a card-board sign in his hands
I’d turned off I-44, the red light, brought me up to him
Sign read, I’ll work for food, can you lend me, a helping hand?
Broke my heart, to see me standing there,
Rolled down my window, and said, Brother, I understand
If. my business doesn’t get better, move over
I’ll be standing at your side, and he, replied…,
I understand, had a company of my own
Business couldn’t have been better
The fall I took, was one of the heart, nice car you drive
Automatic windows, push a button and you can see everything
Had a car like yours, not to long ago, now, I’m standing here,
With this card-board sign in my hands, just didn’t see it coming
The light turned green, horns began to scream
Wished him well, went on my way, but you know what
I remember his words.., I was successful like you
Now, here I am, with this card board, sign in my hands
Count Your Blessings, a message from, “Card-Board Man”

Martin V (4.244.171.91) -- Friday, May 14 2004, 06:24 pm Barb, I see this man, most every day as I have to post some things in the mail. I thought about, giving him the poem, but, he would prefer five bucks. What do you think, perhaps, I should give him both. I'd like him to know, I respect the image he reveals and think, "there but, for the grace of God," well, you know the rest. By the way, this is the second, Non-Blond moment you have had. Regards to you, MartinV. |
barb (66.46.230.219) -- Friday, May 14 2004, 08:26 pm I really like the idea of giving him the poem, and tell him he was the inspiration for it. Iit will make him feel good. As far as the money goes from my experience you'll be the one known as money bags and you'll get all the cardboard men, unless you have lots of money don't give money. take him some supper or clothes.Very good thinking Martin. see I can have more than 1 or2 non-blonde moments smart a-- ha ha. keep writing you have a good heart too. |
