The Night I Said Good-bye
6 November, 2002
Author: Capricorn
I remember the night when I said goodbye
For I knew that soon you would die
Your eyes though closed, sensed me near
I knew deaths hand you did not fear
A pillow was placed beneath your head
Over your body a blanket was spread
I gently kissed your head that night
And gave your life one last sight
With lump in throat said `I love you'
Eyes flickered for a moment, yes you knew
I had to tear myself away
Knowing what would happen by next day
And next morning your spirit had gone
Never again to see the dawn
Although expected, so sad just the same
Give thanks for a full life, a completed game
My heart though heavy, knew this was best
For to live any longer would be a test
I remember the night when I said goodbye
Remembered now with many tears in my eye
