Grief's Monster
My Dearest Dad,
My spirit collapsed
when I heard you were
beckoned through
death’s dark tunnel,
and welcomed by
the radiant warmth
of familiar faces.
I wish death’s clock
had waited
for us to say
goodbye.
When will
grief’s appetite
be satisfied?
-- the monster
gnaws away
inside my chest
until it’s raw.
My mind’s awhirl
with words
I could have said
last time we met;
I hope you hear
my whispers now.
I love you Dad
…and miss you.

From his new place, you can see his face as the morning sun and his winking eyes at night, as he continues to love and watch over you.
