You're In Texas
14 July, 2003
Author: Ben Laney
You're out where the dust-storms
Sandblast ev'rything in sight
I'm here on the West Coast
Where the weather is just right
In your yard rattlesnakes
Die in their tracks from the heat
Here the ground sometimes shakes,
But it doesn't barbeque my feet
You look out your window
Through heat-waves at mesquite
While I'm watching saiboats
Playin' in the ocean breeze
Hey, you say you're lonely
Well, I can't imagine why
You got all those coyotes
To sing you Texas lullabyes
I re-read your letters
Over and over again
There is nothin' better
For makin' me laugh and grin
As I scan the pages
A re-occuring thought comes through
I'm glad I'm not in Texas
Bakin' inside your burnin' shoes
Yes, you're in Texas
And I'm not
Sweatin' in Texas
I bet you're smolderin' hot
Oh, I know
I shouldn't gloat like this,
But I just can't stop
Hey, you're in Texas
And I'm not
Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha!
Yes, you're in Texas
And I'm not!

MartinV (171.75.207.250) -- Thursday, July 31 2003, 06:22 pm Ben, I have been to the state of CA and yes, its nice, until as you say, the ground begins to shake. I saw the sail boats to and the migration of the gray whales, but I'm just reminding you, your poems are more about Texas and I didn't hear you mention Bar-B-Que in CA! Yes, its there but, hey, it AIN'T real Bar-B-Que, now is it? May your boots rot in the West Coast, wet air, as the state trys to work out its financial affairs. May Davis continue to ruin the state. If he were in Texas, hey, we would hang him here. Have a great day, (no kidding) -MartinV |
Ben Laney (65.135.87.4) -- Monday, July 26 2004, 12:47 pm Tarna, I know you're teasing about Texas, and this comment made me smile. Please forgive me for taking so long to let you know. (Just look at that date!) So, very belatedly, thank you sooo much for taking time to read and leave your humorous words here, I really do appreciate them! All The Best, Ben |
Ben Laney (65.142.45.236) -- Tuesday, July 27 2004, 10:03 pm Martin, I may be in California but I can always take my tail to Texas anytime I that highway song plays in my ears. So, if you ever hear the sound of a road dog howling under the moon and stars on Interstate 40 you know who is on his way to Lubbock or Amarillo on the run! As for the ground shaking in California...it shook me so hard once that my brain flew out of my ear! And of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most! Arnie, The "Govornater" we have now, I would be glad to send to Texas! Or, Oklahoma for that matter. Thanks soooo much, Ameego for your entertaining comment, It was fun! All The Best, Ben |
Martin Vann (63.185.64.1) -- Tuesday, July 27 2004, 10:45 pm Ben, Your flying down the Interstate, ben to long, since, you had one...., of Hilda's stakes, with all the trimmings, sheriff's badges, Texas Highwat Patrol Badges, and yes, Texas Ranger badges, and we can't forget, the paper servers, Ben, you hurt me deep with all your hu-mur. Good thing for you, Hilda, has an appetite for you, she hides you under all the hides, where Grandpa, scraped the meat off, so Hilda, could serve that stake to you! Geez, only you, my wayward brother Ben, could drive down the the Interstate, like a Bat out of H..., and end up in heaven, wrapped in Hilda's loving arms. My all your tortillsa, be roled to your spe-ci-fi-cations, and all your tamalles hot, I won't tell, Hilda, else, you will be flying backwards, back up the Interstate, with all those badges, on your tail! -MV P.S. no, never mind! |
Ben Laney (68.127.169.72) -- Monday, August 16 2004, 07:19 pm You are right, Martin Vann, I'll be flying backwards with my eyes as big as basketballs if I should spy Hilda alongside of one of those truckstops on I-40 somewhere. You will see a man on a mission for sure, Amigo! Haa! Haaa! Thanks for the laughs, HAY MEE GO! Best Regards, Ben |
