Navaho Wind
26 June, 2003
Author: Ben Laney
My earliest memories
Were carved deep in my soul
Down south of the Rockies
Where Cochise once roamed
I swam in the Pecos
I rode bare-back on the sand
I danced like the antelope
Across an enchanted land
I left for the city
Before I was grown
With those pastures behind me
I took my dreams on the road
A latter day gypsy
A moth flying for a flame
With a song burning in me
That will never be tamed
Now I ride on these freeways
Dodging trucks and cars
Where stress is commonplace
And the landscape is scarred
Far from the prairies
Far from the meadow-lark's tune
Far from the coyotes
Who sing up at the moon
And it brings me some comfort
My spirit runs free once again
When I let my heart drift back
On the Navaho wind
You are like an old friend
Blow, you Navaho wind

Crimson Angel (12.249.164.87) -- Sunday, June 29 2003, 12:55 pm I am amazed at what you have written. I can even hear the coyotes at night, and the sweet wind, it's like what I felt once. I believe that place is like a paradise, that you have happily shared with the world. Nice poem, and hope to see more. :) |
Ben (67.123.244.245) -- Friday, July 11 2003, 09:12 am ...In my mind I still drift back there. Did you hear that sound? A coyote's song can ride for miles on the Navaho wind. Thank you all for your comments. I am glad to read and enjoy them!! Aww, Sis!! |
