Devil's Lullaby

Silent whispers through the night,
Careless victims running blind,
Out of sight and out of mind,
Shadows singing in mid-flight.
Bloody footprints in the snow,
Scared children far from home,
Tearing flesh and braking bones,
Their dark deed is not yet done.
Hell-bound souls begin their trip,
Black rose thorns that nick and rip,
Rotting heartache ensnared in bricks,
Hall of horrors, take you pick.
Anguished lovers miles apart,
Darkness’ grip will crush their heart,
Struck by Cupid’s poisoned darts,
Part of Fortune’s twisted lark.
Laugh and cry and die again,
Good intentions wrapped in chains,
Tears to wash away the rain,
Ingrates forced to feel our pain.
