The Energy Of It All
5 July, 2004
Author: Pondering Red
Saturday in this city-
everything seems to be
going on at once.
Biking
with you-
always ahead,
at times,
winding alongside
to tickle-
tease - taunt me ?
Heat builds up.
extreme sun-
the paths are supreme-
statuesque homes-
splendid gardens.
Through downtown
congestion-
people coming at us
from all directions.
The thumping beat
of the Carivest parade-
sizzling energy.
Then onto the jazz festival,
more herds of people-
heat unbearable-
We sit in the shade
on flattened grass.
A father holds
his months old baby
on a tree branch.
Different people sit and go-
different storys.
I soak it all in.
We nibble on salad.
I am hoping
you are as happy as I am.
You look so sad.
A lady dressed in red silk-
flowing gown-
on stilts,
walks around-
a pointed red star
on her head.
Then onto Chinatown-
looking at trinkets
and things-
row and rows of things.
I buy some mala beads.
You buy nothing.
I breathe in
enough energy for a week.
This stimulation
is almost overwhelming,
yet soothing.
Your company is appreciated.
We stop into
the cathedral-
quiet- a different dimension-
massive arches-
just a couple of people sitting.
Then, the long trek home-
a pit stop in the park-
long shadows-
lush greens-
I am feeling good.
You are looking good.
What a cultural travel-
such a wide spectrum of colours
of people and music
of everyones energy.
And now at home,
I am still
wound up-
yet still-
Night is settling in.
You say-
I like everything about you.
I smile,
yet,
I remain uneasy.
