Falsely Accussed

Here I sit alone in my cell
A place some call home, but I call hell
Surrounded by fear, prejudice, and hate
I can’t believe this is truly my fate
Thoughts of freedom are all that I’ve got
Wait! What was that? A turn of the lock?
Yes it was! My name has just been called
So soon I’ll be walking down that gray hall
Tell my family I love them even if they already know
Because this is my last walk for it’s my time to go
With tears in my eyes and a prayer on my breath
I go to meet the man that they call death
But I go without guilt because I’m one of the few
That’s dying for a crime I did not do.

Meridian (149.174.164.71) -- Thursday, July 29 2004, 05:54 pm Real cool poem! Real sad though! Justice isn't justice anymore! I love how you have the sense of hearing in your poem, about the turn of the lock.... You're a voice that should be heard more often! This is definitely bittersweet!WONDERFUL poem! Smiles, Meri |

KitKatrina (68.189.46.16) -- Saturday, October 23 2004, 08:12 pm Like Leah said, it's hard to picture that because in some cases it's true. I liked this one a lot. You're a wonderful writer. I'll be waiting to read more... |
