Innocent Blood
5 August, 2004
Author: Ben Laney
North of Broadway
and south of Main
Around the corner
someone's in pain
One more mother
with one less son
The senseless slaughter
goes on and on
East of L A
West of New Jersey
Here comes the day
where is mercy?
Child crying
out in the sun
Another Daddy
taken by a gun
Top of the mountain
down to the sea
Across the ocean
deep misery
Fingers on triggers
missles and bombs
Who now remembers
what's right and what's wrong
I turn my head
I look around
The sky is pierced
by a terrible sound
innocent blood
innocent blood
innocent blood
crying up from the ground
------- Author's Notes -------
I read in the "Old Testament" where seven things that God hates are recorded for our benefit in the scriptures. One of those things listed is the shedding of innocent blood. Should anyone ask in a comment, I would be happy to give the chapter and verse. Then you'd know what those other six things are as well. Love & Whirled Peas, Ben |

Red Sarah (66.122.18.25) -- Thursday, August 5 2004, 09:09 pm You are right, I think it is awful that so many innocent people (children especially) suffer. I admire people who agree that this needs to stop, so I really like your poem's message. I also like your writing style. I think the short lines and rhymes convey the message well. :) take care, Sarah |

I am glad you like the message and the style of it. And, you should feel comfort in the fact that millions and millions of people are in agreement with what you think about the needlees, senseless suffering perpetrated upon the innocent. Thanks again!
