Did you get eaten by coyotes,
did a sandstorm blow you away?
Did you fall into a deep dark hole
and get swallowed by a gopher snake?
Did you become the criminal type
and wind up in the penitentiary?
Excuse me if I seem too curious
but I am really wondering

Why don't you write?
Why oh why don't you write?
Is it just me? Is it just you?
Tell me so I'll have a clue
Why don't you write?

Did you inherit a ton of money
and take off on a world cruise?
Did you run away with the circus,
or join up with a dancing troup?
Did you decide to take a long hike
from sea to shining sea?
Did you make a wrong turn on the road,
have you lost all your memory?

Did you go out to Hollywood
and get discovered by a producer?
Have you gone into drug research
to try to find the cure for cancer?
Did you throw away your possessions
and move into a monastery?
How long must I keep on guessin'
at the answer to this mystery?

There is a great big question mark
here inside my little bitty brain
Now please don't keep me in the dark
just send me a short note to explain

Okay, okay. You're working your fingers to the bone, and you've got the boney fingers to prove it. You get home tired, you get something to eat, and time keeps passing by. Okay, okay. I do understand, things are hectic nowadays aren't they? But just remember what I said the last time I saw you, okay? "Hey, don't forget to write!" This is dedicated to all you busy, busy people out there.
