Uncle Ben's
10 October, 2004
Author: Ben Laney
Music is what I was hired for
at a joint called Uncle Ben's
Little did I know what lay in store
at a joint called Uncle Ben's
The patrons there carry guns and knives
I didn't know I'd have to risk my life
at a joint called Uncle Ben's
At a joint called Uncle Ben's
They say the party there never ends
But love nor money will ever get me back there again
to that joint called Uncle Ben's
Bad boys were getting right in my face
at a joint called Uncle Ben's
Saying Honkey you better get out of this place
at a joint called Uncle Ben's
I said I ain't about to run away
I've been paid so I'll stay here and play
at this joint called Uncle Ben's
Well the bartender came walking over
at a joint called Uncle Ben's
He said now don't you worry 'bout it brother
at a joint called Uncle Ben's
He said I'm packin' me a chrome thirty eight
and I'm makin' sure you are safe
at this joint called Uncle Ben's
At a joint called Uncle Ben's
They say the party there never ends
But love nor money will ever get me back there again
to that joint called Uncle Ben's
------- Author's Notes -------
This one is about a gig I did at a black nightclub some time ago. The club owner saw me playing at another bar across town and hired me to go over to his "Joint". Needless to say, it turned out to be a most interesting and unforgetable one-night-stand. I am glad I walked out alive after playing that joint called Uncle Ben's! You'll have to catch one of my shows somewhere else, I guess. I won't be back at Uncle Ben's. |
