So many tears you’ve wiped away
“I will never hurt you”, these sweet words you say
Never wanting me to feel any hurt
Trying to protect me from the world,
Because when I’m in your arms we’re safe
Fantasizing about running away
You wish out loud “I’m gonna come steal you away”,
You always hold me so close, it’s like you’re so scared that if you let go I’ll never come back.
Listening when I have a problem,
Cheering me up when I’m down,
You’re always apologizing for things I hear or that your friends say,
Pretending I am so fragile that if I hear something wrong I’ll break.
Crying in the rain, you hold me close.
You hold me in your jacket to keep me warm.
“Are you sure you don’t want my jacket, because I’m not cold”, your little white lies to make sure I’m safe and that I’m never uncomfortable.
Always apologizing for things you think might have mislead me,
You’re in my heart, my arms aren’t the only thing you’re keeping warm when you hold me.
This is the way I hope we’ll stay,
With a passion that makes our friends jealous,
And a shoulder to lean on whenever we need anything.
