A Sampling Of Senryu Poems
27 October, 2004
Author: Richard H. Williams
I
Stephen King is here.
Expect horror and terror.
He is funny, too.
II
I like Senryu Poems.
They project a sharp image,
with five, seven, five.
III
A murder of crows,
a coven of black witches,
deep, deep, dark evil.
IV
An exaltation
of the singing birds called Larks.
They make pleasant sounds.
V
The poet critic
Randall Jarrell was nasty.
Young poets feared him.
VI
Editor/poet
Oscar Williams did quite well;
displayed poets' works.
VII
A woman's presence
sweet and lush, inscrutable.
It keeps me in awe.
VIII
Tiger Woods is here.
Other golfers must beware.
He may win it all.
IX
Portuguese Men of
War have deadly tentacles,
just under water.
X
Anne Rice is now here
with her poetic vampires.
She has mummies, too.
XI
Shirley Jackson, yes!
She is the mistress of fear,
the queen of haunting.
XII
Lovecraft beat them all.
Other creeps imitate him.
Gives us the willie
XIII
Pastels make me sneeze.
Oil paintings dry quite slowly.
Acrylics dry fast.
XIV
By starting sooner,
could have been a contender.
Now I write with haste.
XV
I dreamed I was stabbed.
Waking up I saw it was
A black mosquito.
XVI
Boston---good culture
Red Sox are now winning big.
Is Babe Ruth's curse gone?
