Jack-o- Lantern

Pumpkin on my table,
That is so big and bright,
Tell me what you want to be tonight.
Would you want to be a ghost or a witch?
I guess I’ll make you a funny face,
That can brighten even the dampest spirit.
Tell me pumpkin on my table,
Where would you like me to start the first cut?
On your face?
Or on your head?
I’ll make it on your stem.
O great pumpkin on my table,
I’ll take out your seeds,
And give them life,
In my earth outside,
This cold Halloween night.
As I take your insides out,
Try not to giggle,
For I know it tickles,
But if you squirm around,
I might damage the sides.
As I carve a funny face,
Onto your hard outer side,
Remember to smile,
Your funny face.
Now all you need is a candle,
To light your face,
May this candle represent your heart,
That loves all the children’s costumes,
That comes by.
Outside you sit,
Next to my front door,
Make all the children smile,
And know that you did your job.
