My Lindsay

My vegan girl sleeping there
With smiling lips and chestnut hair
Whose life I want to always share
You golden up my every day
with happy things you do and say
in your warm and loving cheerful way
Your chocolate brown and gently eyes
hold wisdom of the very wise
who harm no souls, not even flies
Earth’s living things, both great and small
who walk or swim or fly or crawl
you long to help, you love them all.
You elfin ears are pretty too
they listen to my endless spew
I feel important when with your
From land of cheese and bikes and beer (Wisconsin)
you moved to live by me right here (Las Vegas)
a place where cash can disappear.
Of all the animals that be
who could receive your charity
you freely chose to come to me.
Then you saved a little kitty
from the cages of the city
she’s so grateful for your pity
I saw that you were quite depressed
because you could not save the rest
and bring them to your cozy nest.
Such gentle love I’ve never known
to have and hold and call my own
now I no longer am alone
The things I really want to do
are hold and love and cherish you—
to help make all your dreams come true
My darling I can hardly wait
for that long awaited joyous date
when you become my lovely mate.
I know I’ll feel such humble pride
when you are standing by my side
and our binding knot is tied.
I promise to be yours through life
our binding ties shall meet no knife
so long as you will be my wife.
I’ll promise you, you’ll promise me
that our love shall ever be
perhaps through all eternity.
You lie there sleeping as I write—
you’re such a precious peaceful sight—
I hope you’re dreaming sweet tonight
I’ll send my happy thoughts to you
so you’ll experience them too—
the thoughts of when we say, “I do!”
