Morbid Fascination
26 November, 2004
Author: Mike
A bird in the road, it's skull weeping blood,
Feathers and bone embracing in the flood.
It's eyes open wide in unblinking stare.
The stench of excretion permeating the air.
It's legs were squashed flat, pushed against the road.
It had succeeded in breaking the human code -
"Any animal found in a cars path,
No matter what is was, it would not last."
As I stood there staring at this,
Only a short hiss escaped my lips.
I couldn't take my eyes off this grisly sight,
Standing and staring until the dark of night.
------- Author's Notes -------
A few days ago, I was walking home from school. I found a dead bird, and it gave me the inspiration for this poem. It may seem sick, but I feel that poems are a way to express yourself, and writing about it helps to ease my pain. Sorry if this freaks anyone out. And just to clear something up, I'm 15. A lot of people have asked me, and I thought if I said so on the site they wouldn't have to. Thanks. Mike |
