Tug Of Death

Alone in my room, I face my fears.
My whole body shaking, my eyes full of tears.
I delve deep into my mind, pursuing the shadows,
Where lurking in the dark, an evil river flows.

Towering red waves, at least 50 feet tall,
Between cliffs so high they catch stars as they fall.
At the top of these cliffs, a lone figure stands,
Death at it's feet, Life in it's hands.

Life pulls it back, away from the cliffs
While Death pulls it forward, towards the abyss.
It moves back and forth, getting closer to the edge
Until Death suddenly tugs, pulling it off the ledge.

It falls down and down, toward the red river
With no chance of surviving, not even a sliver.
It hits the freezing water, falls into the flood.
The waves drag it under, spilling it's blood.

------- Author's Notes -------

This poem represents the daily struggle some people face -"Should I do it? Shouldn't I?" More often then not, 'Life' pulls them back, but this poem is about the victory of Death.
