Another Wasted Kiss
4 December, 2004
Author: Keri K Zeiser
In spite of a rusty love, you said–
Swear to me that when I'm spent
You will slay my enemies
From the blade to the rosary
Tonight I will walk among the dead–
Face down and swollen
I take the picture to remember the night
After you’ve drowned yourself in cyanide
And I refused your hand once more
Burning on–
Just like a match you strike to set ablaze
You’ve turned the bottle dry
Once again
I burn your body
Where it fades to black
Returning to the dusk at the day’s end
Ashes scattered half by sea and
Half on the life of the land
I am hallucinating once again
Rambling on about our time
I told you off and said goodbye
It was just a single crack in the path
No longer a need to raise my hope
