Pole, Net & Hands
14 December, 2004
Author: J Freedom Long
Roaring winds on mountain top,
Searching for that helping prop.
Must cross rope bridge,
"Its a long way down!"
Fearful alone,
"So far above ground?"
First man came with a
long prodding pole.
To prod and push "me"
for "his" stand still soul.
Second man came with
old safety net.
Used too often for
hard falls to set.
Third man came with
warm kindly face.
Looked all around
at span and space.
"Know this bridge,
know the winds and sway,
I'll lead and
hold your hands today.
Offer your hands tomorrow
before you forget?
Helping hands from true friends,
need no pole or net!"
------- Author's Notes -------
My poem is about true friends..the first character is a negative motivator prodding with the pole to serve selfish ends, the next is the enabler who means well but has used that same net too often, whereas the last one knows the territory, helps us across, and expects us to do same for others as a true friend. |
